Surprisingly, no. My favourite subject at school was history, and I still have an interest in history. I have been looking at the history of Edinburgh Medicine and the Royal Medical Society (RMS), and there are some really interesting things there. The RMS was formed before we knew what caused earthquakes, or what caused the craters on the moon. It was formed before the smallpox vaccine, and before Charles Darwin developed his theory of evolution. You can see some of the moments of history that shape our world in the essays and news articles of these old medical institutions, and it is fascinating to read.
