Cancer is an uncontrolled growth of cells that aren’t specialized to carry out the function they need to. Because of this, they can take over the nutrient supply of the healthy cells around them and impede their function.

It starts with a “mutation” (basically a change in the DNA), which rewrites the instructions the cells have for functioning and turns them into cancer cells. Whilst cancer cells aren’t very good at functioning like healthy cells, what they can be good at is growing and reproducing and evolving better survival mechanisms which is why it’s quite tricky to get rid of them.
