About Me:
Hi all! I’m a postgraduate (meaning I’ve done my undergraduate, bachelor’s degree) masters student researching cancer biology at the UoE. I live here in Edinburgh with my Partner, after moving from Kent to study here. Other than loving science/biology, I also love reading, climbing, dance, and food (lots of it). After my Masters I want to work in research and then eventually become a medical doctor 🩺👩⚕️.

I originally grew up in Kent, moving away when I started university! I did an undergraduate in Biology at UEA in Norwich. I got the highest grade on my course, and the higher grade in my dissertation, which meant I got to go to a fancy event and get an award from the Royal Society of Biology (they’re the big guns!).
I decided to move to Edinburgh for my postgraduate masters after I visited it on a weekend away! I fell in love with the city and so decided I wanted to study here!
In terms of hobbies, I love both reading, yoga and dancing. I fell out of love of reading when I was doing my undergraduate, because it took up LOTS of my time. This course is slightly more structured like a work day so I finally have some more time to read again!
I love spending my time doing exercise when I can, and yoga and dance are my favourite ways to move! I’ve been dancing since I was 4, and started yoga this year – I really enjoy both 🙂

My Typical Day:
I wake up at 7:30am, do some exercise, eat and head to the lab!
We have lunch about midday.
Then I’ll head home at about 4pm.
Most of my days consist of either desk work, or work in the lab! At the moment I’m removing DNA from different tumours (ew!!) -

I normally wake up about 7:30am, do some yoga, get ready and have some breakfast quickly before leaving the house for work. When I get to work I either will be in the lab, or at my desk doing coding stuff on my laptop! Lunch time is normally around 12pm-1pm, all of the lab sit together and we have a chat about our days, the usual etc.
Then i’ll head back to the lab to finish whatever experiment I’m doing, and undoubtedly will get a coffee at some point in the afternoon when I’m feeling tired.
If it’s a tues/wed I’ll then head home at 3pm, because I do tutoring from 4pm-8pm!
Other days I stay until what I need to do is done! (normally 4-5pm).My days and hours are slightly more relaxed than the other scientists, as I’m a masters student!

What I'd do with the prize money:
I’d put it towards buying my tutee’s some interesting science books – both fiction and non-fiction! Like ‘The Martian’, ‘An Astronaut’s Guide to a Life on Earth’, or ‘Human Universe’.
Maybe I could get some people to make easy-to-watch TikToks about basic biology ideas – which would be good for revision!!
